Methods of Geoinformation Science

The
tasks of the department of “Methods of Geoinformation Science”
comprise the modelling, acquisition, processing, analysis and
presentation of spatial data. In this context, the development of
methods for spatial data modelling, geo algorithms, data acquisition
and integration, 3D geodatabases, visualisation, spatial data
infrastructures, and selected topics of telematics plays a major role.
The fundamental shift away from two-dimensional representation of
geodata towards modelling of three-dimensional geodata and the notion
of time as fourth dimension pose current and future challenges.
Further research topcis include the automated acquisition of 3D
building and city models and the integration of uncertain, diffuse and
redundant geometry information into geoinformation systems.

The Denny Medal 2018 was handed over to Emil Bayramov, Martin Kada und Manfred Buchroithner on 15th March 2019 in London for the paper “Monitoring oil spill hotspots, contamination probability modelling and assessment of coastal impacts in the Caspian Sea using SENTINEL-1, LANDSAT-8, RADARSAT, ENVISAT and ERS satellite sensors” [3]. In the motivation one can read:
“The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (InMarEST) is pleased to advise you that you and all contributing authors have been awarded the Institute’s 2018 Denny Medal (Journal of Operational Oceanography), for your paper entitled ‘Monitoring oil spill hotspots, contamination probability modelling and assessment of coastal impacts in the Caspian Sea using SENTINEL-1, LANDSAT-8, RADARSAT, ENVISAT and ERS satellite sensors’ published in the Journal of Operational Oceanography.
The Institute’s Denny Medal (JOO) and a certificate are awarded annually to the most worthy paper published by the Institute in the Journal of Operational Oceanography each year.”
